What Katie Did Lingerie

Founded in 1999 What Katie Did specialise in lingerie and corsetry inspired by silver screen sirens of the '40s and '50s.

Karen Gillian wears our Seamed Fishnet Tights in October’s GQ magazine (UK). Karen is best known for playing Amy Pond in Doctor Who, but she’ll soon be spreading her wings playing Jean Shrimpton in BBC4’s ‘We’ll Take Manhattan’ a biopic of Shrimpton’s sometime boyfriend David Bailey.

Whilst we were at The Goodwood Revival a couple of weeks ago we noticed that our Union Flag corsetwas getting even more attention than normal (and that’s before Kitten von Mew started modelling it! Pics coming soon.) It turns out the four corsets we rushed through for a secret event were worn as part of the Southampton Boat Show. i think that you’ll agree that they made an impression (even stealing the show from Jenson Button).

Besame Cosmetics have just launched their Holiday gift set: a brand new shade of Besame lipstick with an exclusive scarf designed by Kenley Collins. We launched the set at The Goodwood Revival a couple of weeks ago and were asked about the new lipstick shade: Gabriela has now given us the answer!

It was Vogue’s Fashion Night Out a couple of weeks ago and although our boutiques were unable to participate this year, our lingerie did! London burlesque troupe The Folly Mixtures added some glamour to FNO at London’s Burlington Arcade. The Burlington Arcade is my favourite arcades in London, full of smaller luxe brands (including Lulu Guinness), it really gives you an idea of how glamorous shopping in Knightsbridge was in years past. Maybe seeing these pictures will give the Portobello Green Arcade some inspiration! The Folly Mixtures wear our Harlow Bullet Bra and Suspender Belt customized with rhinestones.

The Burlington Arcade is my favourite arcades in London, full of smaller luxe brands (including Lulu Guinness), it really gives you an idea of how glamorous shopping in Knightsbridge was in years past. We’ve always been big fans of Viva Van Story and when we heard that she was working on a book titled ‘Sheer’ we couldn’t wait to see it. It’s full of saucy images of pin ups in sheer or semi sheer lingerie which surely should make it a must have for fans of What Katie Did. The image below featuring our Harlow Bullet Bra and Suspender Belt is probably the only non sheer image in the book, which is lucky as otherwise we’d have problems finding a family safe one to use! We’ve teamed up with Viva’s publishers; Korero Books, who just happen to be based in London to host a little launch party in our Portobello Road boutique. There will be a tableau of pin ups, including Ruby True, a British model who appears in the book, all wearing What Katie Did lingerie which is featured in Sheer. So please join us for an afternoon of pin up, cocktails and cake - along with a generous discount on both Sheer and the lingerie featured in the book. Sunday 21st October, 3-5pm. We’re thrilled to announce that our Glamour and Cabaret underwired bras are now available in A cups, plus 32FF, G and 34FF. I know by posting this we’ll get a huge backlash saying ‘but you still don’t do my size!!!’ I know you’re not really interested in the answer that we’re a tiny company and can’t afford to do all sizes so here’s an alternative answer. I’ve taken a look at the competition to see what sizes they do: Myla do 23 different bra sizes, Agent Provocateur do 29 different bra sizes. Bare in mind that both companies are considerably bigger than What Katie Did (AP has a turnover 17 times more than us!) Guess how many bra sizes we manufacture? 48. To tell you the truth I don’t think we’re doing that badly.
